Without any context at all, I'm guessing that the printer is not aware of what you are doing.

Depending on the printer model,

Change the paper in the tray -- or open / close tray if paper is already loaded

Use the Printer Control Panel to update / modify / confirm the paper size / type

OR

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to view / adjust the Tray and Paper Settings

General Examples -- might or  might not be relevant to your printer model and situation...

Select (newer) InkJet and a few LaserJet printers - EWS - Tray and Paper

Select (newer) InkJet and a few LaserJet printers - EWS - Default Print Options
