HP LaserJet MFP M140we Printer

The display shows the error "rd". No manipulation helps. I tried pressing "up" + "cancel" to turn on the power. I have re-read a lot of information - nowhere is there a solution to this problem.

Hi @Combiner,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding error code on your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Try these steps:

Hard Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from power.
  • Wait 60 seconds before plugging it back in.
  • Turn it on and check if the error persists.

Check for Jammed Paper or Obstructions

  • Open the paper tray and toner access door.
  • Look for any stuck paper or debris.
  • If you find anything, gently remove it and restart the printer.

Update Firmware

  • If the printer is connected to WiFi:
    • Open the HP Smart App on your computer or phone.
    • Go to Printer Settings > Firmware Update and install any updates.

Reset Printer to Factory Settings

Try a factory reset using this key combination:

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Hold "Cancel" + "Up" buttons together.
  • While holding them, turn the printer back on.
  • Keep holding the buttons until the printer resets.

Let me know if any of these steps helped! 😊

I'm sorry, but this is a useless instruction manual.

Connecting to the printer does not work from the application.

p.s. As for the second step (factory reset), I wrote in the topic that it doesn't work.

Hi @Combiner,

Thank you for your response. A "RD error" on an HP LaserJet printer typically indicates a "Paper Jam" error where the printer has detected a paper obstruction within the paper path, preventing it from feeding paper properly; "RD" often stands for "Paper Jam Detected" in HP printer error codes.

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds to allow the printer to reset completely.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

I have shared steps in this link: https://support.hp.com/gb-en/document/c05862548

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

I'm curious, when you write such things, do you believe it yourself?
Do you think I didn't check for paper jams?

I've tried a factory reset even and it doesn't even go through.
