Hi @SD1962,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When a red "X" appears on your HP ENVY 6420e All-In-One Printer when you try to print, it typically indicates that there is an issue with the printer or the print job. Here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Check the printer status: Make sure there are no error messages displayed on the printer's control panel. If there are any error messages, refer to the printer's user manual or HP's support website for instructions on how to resolve them.
- Check ink or toner levels: Ensure that the ink or toner cartridges in the printer have sufficient levels of ink or toner. If they are low or empty, replace them with new cartridges.
- Verify paper and print settings: Ensure that you have loaded the correct type and size of paper in the printer's paper tray. Also, check the print settings on your computer to ensure they match the paper and print quality you desire.
- Restart the printer and computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary glitches. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, wait for a few seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Additionally, restart your computer to refresh the printer connection.
- Update or reinstall printer drivers: Outdated or corrupted printer drivers can cause printing issues. Visit the HP support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model. Install them on your computer and follow the instructions provided.
- Check connectivity: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to your computer or the network. If you're using a USB connection, try using a different USB cable or connecting to a different USB port. If you're using a network connection, make sure the printer is connected to the network and that your computer is also connected to the same network.
- Clear print queue: If there are any stuck print jobs in the print queue, it can prevent new print jobs from going through. Open the print queue on your computer, cancel any pending print jobs, and then try printing again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
