refilled hp cartridges not recognized

Hi. I have recently refilled my original Hp 652 black cartridge after it was empty. The problem is that when I insert it into the printer, I still the low ink warning.

I tried resetting the printer, cold reset  soft reset, adhesive tape, etc. Nothing worked. 

Are these cartridges not supposed to be refilled or there's something else that can be done?

While it is possible to refill single-use ink cartridges, the practice is not supported by HP.  (I would guess the practice of refilling single-use cartridges is not supported by any printer / ink manufacturer, but that is an opinion and not based on research or facts.)

The cartridge is not meant to recognize the "refilled" state, that is, the mechanism inside the cartridge that detects the ink level is not reset when you add more ink to a "single use" cartridge.

Worse - and the evidence supports this even as "refilled cartridge fans" claim it is not true:  Refilled ink cartridges can (and will likely at some point) damage your printer.  Not damage it "a little bit", damage it permanently - as in:  dead printer.

Opinion:

For an inexpensive printer, the threat of eventual damage is perhaps not a "big deal".  If you paid more than say, $100 for the printer, or if you live where it is difficult to obtain an immediate replacement, make sure you understand the risks and then proceed as you wish.

Now can you tell me what or to reset the "mechanism" inside the cartridge?
