Hi @bayskunk,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Error code 0x80040003 on an HP printer generally suggests a communication issue between the printer and your computer or a problem with the printer’s configuration. Here are steps to help you resolve the issue.

Restart the Printer and Computer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on after a few minutes.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Ensure that the latest printer drivers are installed on your system. Visit the HP Support website to download the latest drivers for your printer model.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

  • Use the Windows built-in troubleshooter for printers. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters, and select Printer to run the troubleshooter.

Check Connection:

  • Verify that the printer is properly connected to your computer, either through a USB cable or a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Reinstall Printer Software:

  • Uninstall the current printer software from your computer. Then, reinstall it using the latest version available on the HP Support website.

Clear Print Queue:

  • Access the print queue (usually visible by clicking on the printer icon in your system tray) and remove any pending print jobs that might be causing a block.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor:

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool. This utility can help diagnose and fix a wide range of printer issues automatically.

Check System Resources:

  • Ensure your computer has enough free memory and hard disk space to handle print jobs, as resource constraints can sometimes trigger such errors.

Verify Printer Firmware:

  • Check for any available firmware updates for the printer. Updating the firmware can help resolve issues caused by outdated printer software.

Following these steps should help resolve the error code 0x80040003.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
