Hi @krngr,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand the issue with your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer where the scan auto-cancels and does not save the document when using the automatic document feeder (ADF) could be caused by a few factors.
Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:
1. Check for Software Updates HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
- Ensure that your printer firmware is up to date. Go to HP's website or use the HP Smart app to check for any available updates.
- Similarly, check that your HP scanning software (e.g., HP Smart, HP Scan) is up to date.
2. Reset the Printer
- Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait for about 1-2 minutes.
- Plug the printer back in, turn it on, and try scanning again.
3. Check ADF for Paper Jams or Obstructions
- Open the ADF cover and check for any paper jams or debris that could be causing scanning issues.
- Clean the ADF rollers and the scanning surface, as dirt can sometimes interfere with the scanning process.
4. Try Scanning from Different Software
- If you're using HP Smart, try scanning from another scanning app, such as Windows Fax and Scan, or HP Scan software.
- This helps identify if the issue is with the scanning software or the printer itself.
5. Change Scan Settings
- Open the scan settings and adjust the resolution or file format. Sometimes, high-resolution scans or certain file types can cause issues with saving documents.
- Ensure the scan destination is properly set up and has enough storage space.
6. Test with Flatbed Scanner
- Try scanning from the flatbed to see if the issue occurs there as well. If the flatbed works without issue, it may indicate a problem specifically with the ADF.
7. Check Cancel Button Sensitivity
- Ensure that no one is accidentally pressing the cancel button on the printer during or after scanning.
- On some printers, the cancel button is sensitive, and any accidental touch could cause the scan to cancel.
8. Use Different Devices
- Try scanning from another device (e.g., another computer or phone) to see if the issue persists across devices.
9. Reinstall the Printer Software
- Uninstall the printer software (HP Smart or HP Scan) from your computer.
- Restart your computer and reinstall the latest version of the software from the HP website.
Refer to this document: HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer User manual
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
