Don't worry I'd like to help you out. To assist you better please answer a few questions below.
Did you make any changes to your printer?
Did you encounter the error message while scanning?
Have you installed the full feature printer software on the PC?
Is the printer connected by a wired or a wireless connection?
Please share the operating system you are running on the PC.
Let's diagnose and isolate the issue.
Before scanning to a computer, make sure you have already installed the HP recommended printer software. The printer and computer must be connected and turned on
To scan a document or photo to a file (Windows)
1. Load the original print side down on the right front corner of the scanner glass.
2. Double-click the printer icon on the desktop or do one of the following to open the printer software: ● Windows 8.1: Click the down arrow in lower left corner of the Start screen, and then select the printer name. ● Windows 8: Right-click an empty area on the Start screen, click All Apps on the app bar, and then select the printer name. ● Windows 7, Windows Vista, and Windows XP: From the computer desktop, click Start, select All Programs, click HP, click the folder for the printer, and then select the icon with the printer's name.
3. In the printer software, click Scan a Document or Photo .
4. Select the type of scan you want and then click Scan . ● Choose Save as PDF to save the document (or photo) as a PDF file. ● Choose Save as JPEG to save the photo (or document) as an image file.

If you have scan to computer issues try the steps recommended below.
On your keyboard, press Ctrl + Shift + Esc keys at the same time to open Task Manager. Here we will do some settings under both Process tab and Startup tab.
Find scanToPCActivationApp under Processes tab.
Then right-click on it to choose End task.
Find scanToPCActivationApp under Startup tab.
Then right-click on it to choose Disable.
Restart your PC.
Also, try assigning a static IP to your printer.

In the search type Devices and Printers. Open devices and printer.
Click Add Printer.
Select Add a network, wireless, or Bluetooth printer, then click Next.
Select The printer that I want isn't listed, then click Next.
Select Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname, then click Next.
In the Hostname or IP address box, enter the printer IP address, then click Next.
Select the type of printer you are using, then click Next.
On the "Type a printer name window," do the following:
In the Printer name box, enter a name for your printer so you can identify it.
If you want to make this printer your default printer, check Set as the default printer.
Click Next.
On the "You've successfully added" window, do the following:
Click Print a test page.
When you have successfully printed a test page, click Finish.
Lastly, uninstall the printer software from the root level of your PC and install the full feature printer software.
In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
Select your HP printer.
Select Uninstall.
In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
Click on Drivers tab.
Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click remove at the bottom.
Select OK.
Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
Close Devices and Printers.
