I have been doing a lot of scanning to email as pdf, without difficulty. The most recent packet of double sided scan to email pdf halted after the first or second sheet of the SECOND side more than once. When I try to cancel and try again it does the same, and then froze, so that the window could not be closed. I closed with task manager. Now it's continuing to throw a pop up that says the scanner is currently in use by another. I cannot end it, no job Is pending, but I cannot use it. I tried updating software for this Officejet 5740 and now it also gives a pop up saying that the series is not found, alternating with the pop up that the scanner is currently in use.

@Narey, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Try scanning. If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.
Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue
Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix Scanning'.
