After months and months of endless frustration with my HP DESK JET PRO 8620 I have finally carried it out the backdoor for junk - hoping someone will pick it up and maybe figure out how to make it work.  The printer works fine, so does the scanner IF you can ever get the computer software to connect to it.  I have followed every bit of advice both from telephone calls (which I soon abandoned because they were totally useless) and from endless and repeated visits to the HP site and forum.  At first, things might work for a week or two.  Then once again that universal message 'the printer cannot be found or is not connected".  At first, unplugging the printer, shutting it off, rebooting the computer would get it going again for a week.  But eventually, it got to the point where it would stop in the middle of a job and announce that the printer could not be found.  It made no difference whether I used the WIFI connection or the USB.  Eventually I tried  deleting the printer and hoped to reinstall it from the web.  GUess what??  HP has no software for this printer for the latest MAC OS and no updates!!!! (It's only 4 years old). So I was forced to reinstall it from my Time Machine backups. Same story.  Eventually it reached the point where nothing worked at all - it was impossible to get the computer to find the printer no matter what I tried.

Then, surprise - I dug up an old discarded Epson printer (about 15 years old, maybe even more) so I could print, went online - Presto - found the latest software for the latest Mac OS in under a minute, installed it and it works perfectly.

I've used HP printers for about 20 years through many models.  Each time HP's support got worse and worse.  Now it's definitely good-bye HP for any future printer purchases and hello Epson. l At least, they look after their products longer than 4 years.
