6400e printer.  prints from windows machine not iPhone

I understand you are getting the red blinking light on the left copy button of your HP ENVY 6455e All-in-One Printer indicates an issue that needs attention, but it may not always provide a detailed error message. 

Here's how to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:


1. Check Printer Status on HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your iPhone or Windows computer.
  • Check for any error messages or alerts in the app. This app can provide more specific information on what might be wrong with the printer.

2. Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off your printer by unplugging it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds.
  • Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

3. Check the Printer for Paper Jams or Low Ink:

  • Open the paper tray and remove any jammed paper.
  • Check the ink levels through the HP Smart app or on the printer screen and replace any low or empty cartridges.

4. Printer Settings on Your iPhone:

  • Ensure that the printer and your iPhone are connected to the same WiFi network.
  • Go to your iPhone's settings and check if the printer is listed under available devices.
  • If it's not, restart both your phone and the printer, and try reconnecting.

5. Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer 

  • On your Windows machine, open the HP Smart app.
  • Go to the settings or printer maintenance section and check if any firmware updates are available.
  • Install updates if needed.

6. Check the Printer’s Network Connection:

  • Print a Wireless Network Test Report:
    • Press and hold the Wireless and Information buttons simultaneously to print the report.
    • The report will show whether the printer is properly connected to your WiFi network.
  • If not, reconnect the printer to the network through the printer’s settings or using the HP Smart app.

7. Check for AirPrint Issues: Set up the HP printer with AirPrint in macOS

  • On your iPhone, make sure AirPrint is enabled and the printer supports it (the HP ENVY 6455e does support AirPrint).
  • If it worked previously but stopped, sometimes reconnecting to the network or resetting network settings on your iPhone can resolve the issue.

If the red light continues to blink and you can’t identify the error, refer to the printer manual for specific troubleshooting steps related to error codes.
