I bought a new laptop with Windows 10 and so I had to buy new printer. Bought HP Deskjet 1110 and when I loaded it the computer did not recognize that USB port cable was plugged in. I can't find any reason why not. Not a new USB cable - do they break down and if so How would I know?

Make sure you do not have the USB cable plugged in when you start your software install. Plug the USB cable in only when the software tells you to do so. And yes, you could have a bad cable or bad port on the computer. Or even the printer may be defective.

Thanks for your help. Actually I feel rather stupid as I didn't realize that the embossed picture of light on top of printer needed to be pressed on. I plugged in the printer and I saw the green light on the back and I thought that was it. The diagram for connecting the printer never said to press button on top of machine. When I did a survey for HP I let them know what happened and why.
Have a nice day and thanks again.
