Hello

How do I select the large back in cartridge for printing . The large black ink cartirdge is 564 and the small cartridge is 564 XL photo.  The printer only uses ink from the small cartridge and not the large carridge. Is there a way to select from one cartridge to another?

Thanks

This question is already posted but I can't see an answer to it other than asking questions as to whether cartidges have ink, are the HP cartridges and has printer been cleaned. Answer is yes to all.

Hi @Rodger2

Welcome to the HP Forums!

Thank you for posting your query in this forum, it's a great place to find answers.

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to know how to make the printer use the large black ink cartridge.

Don’t worry, I’d love to help!

You need to print in black only to make use of the large black cartridge.

Follow below steps to change the settings to print in black only.

You will want to begin with accessing your Devices and Printers folder (via your Control Panel) and right click on your Photosmart 7520 icon and select Printing Preferences. The window that opens will be similar to the screen on the left of the screen shot below. On that screen, you will click the Advanced button and then you will see a screen similar to the one on the right of the screen shot. There you will select the Black Ink Only setting and press OK. Then press Apply on the previous screen before again pressing OK. The driver will now be set to use the black ink only.

I'm trying to follow this for a Mac, but the settings don't appear.  Help?  I just can't get the printer to use a brand new genuine HP 564 XL cartridge.

@daz262,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues related to your HP Printer. Don't worry I'll be glad to help you with this.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model or with the product number of the printer? Use this link to find it:  https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03754824  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

when was the last time it worked?

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Have you tried to follow any HP Article?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Alternatively, you can follow the steps suggested in the support document - HP Inkjet Printers - Printing with Black Ink Only (Mac)

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.
