hi,

I have a printer that is out of warranty and refuses to print with 3rd party cartridges. However, it is out of warranty and it is my right to choose how I use the printer that I fully own.

model: officejet pro 9020

people have said that you can downgrade it, and i acquired an old version of the printer updater, but it says the update is "not applicable"

i extracted the ful2 file and put it in the usb, inserting into the front slot slot but it doesn't do anything.

some people have said the printer needs to be "ready" status for it to update, is that true?

others have said modifying the exe with winrar can force an update?

Thanks in advance,

proud owner of an ink cartridge that is now a paperweight

Hi @househouse1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

 I'd like to help!

You may refill your cartridges or use remanufactured cartridges, but you may run into problems. HP will not guarantee the functionality of those ink cartridges.

There are many cartridges in the market which is refilled and sometimes the chip is not configured to work with the printer. You need to contact the cartridge manufacturer and find out why its not working. Try a different cartridge supplier and check if that works.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
