Hi @roberta152,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the "Validating Please Wait" message on your HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e can indicate an issue with the printer recognizing the cartridge or a problem with the firmware. Here’s a step-by-step guide to resolve the issue:

1. Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and the wall outlet.
  2. Wait for 2-3 minutes to allow the printer to reset completely.
  3. Plug the power cord back in and turn on the printer.
  4. Check if the "Validating Please Wait" message disappears.

2. Check the Cartridge

  1. Open the cartridge access door and ensure:
    • The new cartridge is installed correctly.
    • There is no protective tape or residue on the cartridge's copper contacts.
  2. Clean the electrical contacts of the cartridge and the printhead gently using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.

3. Reinstall the Cartridge

  1. Remove the new cartridge and the old cartridge from the printer.
  2. Power off the printer.
  3. Turn it back on and reinstall the cartridge:
    • Install the old cartridge first to check if the issue is with the new cartridge.
    • If the old cartridge works fine, try reinstalling the new one.

4. Update Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

If the message persists, you can update the firmware using HP Smart on your computer:

  1. Open the HP Smart app and connect to the printer.
  2. Go to Printer Settings and look for Advanced Settings or Web Services.
  3. Select Printer Maintenance > Update Firmware.
    • If the printer is stuck in a busy state, disconnect it from WiFi temporarily to access settings via USB or from a computer.

5. Check Cartridge Compatibility

Ensure the cartridge is genuine and compatible:

  • For the HP OfficeJet Pro 9015e, use HP 962 or HP 962XL cartridges.

6. Restore Factory Defaults

  1. Press and hold the Back and Home buttons on the printer panel until a support menu appears.
  2. Navigate to Restore Factory Defaults.
  3. Once reset, reconfigure the printer and check if the issue is resolved.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
