Product: HP OfficeJet Pro 8720 All-in-One Printer
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
trying to print avery 15660 clear labels. On plain paper address listings are fine. I get a big black vertical mark in the middle of each label

Hi,
Avery 15660 labels are intended for Laser printers, not for Inkjet printers and therefore the print marks, it is not intended nor compatible with such an Inkjet printer:

You may check Avery 18660 labels which are intended for Inkjet printers, here is the paper manufacturer response on a similar query:
