I am printing out a luggage tag that is mostly blue with black lettering.

When it comes out it is mostly blue but then it like fades out into magenta. I've changed the blue cartridge twice and it still does it... in the exact same places each time. it never adjusts.

I don't know what else to do.

I have the HP OfficeJet 8022

Hi @TinaS11,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a printing issue with your HP Officejet 8022 where the blue color fades into magenta. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Clean the Printhead: The printhead may be clogged or dirty, causing the colors to mix improperly. Most printers have a built-in printhead cleaning function that you can access through the printer's settings menu. Run the printhead cleaning utility a few times to see if it improves the color quality.
  • Check Print Settings: Make sure that your print settings are configured correctly. Ensure that the color settings are set to "Auto" or "Color" rather than grayscale or black and white.
  • Alignment: Perform a printhead alignment. This ensures that the printer is properly calibrated to print colors accurately. You can usually find this option in the printer's settings menu.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Sometimes, updating the firmware can resolve printing issues like color fading.
  • Use Genuine Cartridges: Make sure you're using genuine HP ink cartridges. Compatible or refilled cartridges may not provide the same color quality or consistency.
  • Check Ink Levels: Verify that the ink levels in all cartridges are sufficient. Low ink levels can affect print quality.
  • Inspect Cartridges and Contacts: Remove the cartridges and inspect them for any damage or leaks. Also, check the contacts on the cartridges and in the printer to ensure they are clean and free of debris.
  • Print a Diagnostic Page: Most printers have a diagnostic or test page option that you can print to check the overall print quality and alignment. Refer to your printer's manual for instructions on how to print a diagnostic page.

If you've tried these steps and the issue persists, it may indicate a more serious hardware problem with the printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thank you…. Can you tell me how to find the print cleaner head function? I’ve booked every where and I can’t find it. I don’t see anything under printer settings…is it on the printer? I tried on the app too… I have a Mac computer and tried there too. I’m hoping that’s all it is I just can’t figure out how to find it!

Hi @TinaS11,

Thank you for your response,

Typically, the print head cleaning function is accessed through the printer's control panel or through the printer software on your computer or mobile device. Here's how you can try to locate it.

Printer Control Panel: On the printer itself, navigate through the menu options using the control panel. Look for a "Maintenance" or "Tools" option. Within this menu, you should find the print head cleaning function. It might be listed as "Clean Printhead" or something similar.

Printer Software on Computer:

  • Windows: If you're using a Windows computer, go to the Control Panel and find your printer listed under Devices and Printers. Right-click on your printer and select "Printing Preferences" or "Printer Properties." Look for a "Maintenance" or "Tools" tab where you should find the print head cleaning function.
  • Mac: If you're using a Mac, open System Preferences and click on "Printers & Scanners." Select your printer from the list on the left, then click on "Options & Supplies." Look for a tab or button related to maintenance or cleaning.

HP Smart App: If you have the HP Smart app installed on your mobile device, you can also try accessing the print head cleaning function through the app. Look for options related to maintenance or printer tools.
