Having the same difficulty adding my new HP Envy 7800 Printer to my HP Elite Book 820.

The printer is found when serched for and after selecting it to add, this window appears:

Just resolved the problem by turning off the Wi-Fi direct feature.

That then allowed me to add via ip address.

Crazy how this is not described somewhere prominently.

Thank you for approaching HP Support.

 

The WPS PIN you mentioned here is the pin required when connecting your computer wirelessly to your printer, it should be right on the screen of your printer.

 
1. Select Add Printer from the Control Panel on your computer
2. Select your printer in the printer list
3. Once prompt the screen for WPS PIN, check your printer. The PIN number will be generated on the printer screen, but it wont stay up too long
4. Input the PIN number on your computer
5. The printer should be installed in your computer
