Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

I have a hp 4700 tries wireliess printer I purchased  through Apple.

After I added a new Time Capsule a few months ago the wireless connection to the printer seems very flaky. Disconnects - coincidence?

What works to reconnect, but only temporary, is to close-open my wireless on my MB Pro Retina or turn off- on the printer.

Using El Capitan and HP driver 3.3.2

Help?

Drakester;

I have a c4780

I looked on a HP suport page and went through a few steps including checking the Network Configuration. All OK.

What worked so far for 72 hours, was to delete the printer in Sys Prefs and add it back.  Solution 7.

HP has an extensive web page devoted to this issue: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-photosmart-c4700-all-in-one-printer-serie s/3794613/document/...

Thanks

Hi @BrucePL,

Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!

I see that you're unable to print wirelessly to your "HP 4700" Printer. I would be happy to look into this with you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.

In order for me to assist you better, I may require more information.

What is the full name and product number of your printer?

For example:

  • HP Color LaserJet 4700 Printer
  • HP Color LaserJet 4700dn Printer
  • HP Color LaserJet 4700dtn Printer
  • HP Color LaserJet 4700n Printer
  • HP Color LaserJet 4700ph+ Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4740 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4750 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4780 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4783 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4788 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4795 All-in-One Printer
  • HP Photosmart C4799 All-in-One Printer

In the meantime, there is likely something interfering with the wireless connection with the printer or an IP address conflict.

  • Try disabling Bluetooth on the Mac.
  • Disable IPV6 on the printer (if applicable).

Tips for successful wireless connection:

  • What encryption type are you using? HP recommends WPA or WPA2.
  • Use a unique network name (SSID).
  • Avoid using Mac Address Filtering on the router.
  • Make sure you have 802.11g enabled.
  • The printer cannot connect to the 5.0 GHz network. If you have a dual-band router, the 2.4 GHz, and 5.0 GHz network names should not be the same. Rename the 5.0 GHz network.
  • Do not hide your SSID (network name).
  • Change the router to a fixed wireless channel like 1, 6 or 11, which has less traffic.
  • Do you have a switch or an additional router?
  • Do not use a guest network (SSID).
  • Disable UPnP on the router.
  • Set router to 20Mhz only, or 145Mbps depending on the router.
  • Update the router's firmware.
  • Update the printer's firmware.

If the issue persists, you might be experiencing an IP address conflict. It is a good idea to assign the printer a static IP address, outside your DHCP range. For example, some routers DHCP default range is 192.168.0.100 to 192.168.0.200. So, I would use 192.168.0.232.

To assign the static IP address, use these steps as a guideline.

  • Print a Network Configuration Page from the printer's front panel menu. Note the printer's IPV4 IP address.
  • Type the IP address into your internet browser to bring up the EWS.
  • Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless on the left side, then select the IPv4 tab.
  • Select Manual IP.
  • Enter your manual IP address of (192.168.0.232)
  • Enter  255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask, unless it is different.
  • Enter your router's IP address which can be found on the Network Configuration Page) for the default gateway.
  • Please click Manual DNS Server. For the Manual Preferred DNS Server please enter 8.8.8.8 and for the Manual Alternate DNS Server please enter 8.8.4.4.
  • Click Apply.
  • Reboot the router, printer and computer.
  • Test printing.

If you need further assistance, please let me know the following information above. Good Luck!
