Prints color when I do quality diagnostic. Does not print color when any document is sent from computer. Did not get any error messages.
I recently had hard drive replaced and also installed MS Office 2016. Ink levels good, unplugged/replugged both computer&printer, cleaned heads 3 times. I do not use wireless - printer is plugged into Mac. I do not know how to access or change a driver if that is the solution.
This is very frustrating. Looking forward to your assistance. Thank you!

It looks like you were interacting with @DavidSMP, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.
I believe it's an issue with the print driver installed on your Mac PC. Removing and re-adding the printer driver may resolve the issue, let's try these steps:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner. Click the name of your printer, click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu, and then click Add.
4.) Try to print.
Let me know how it goes!

Good Day. Thank you for posting your query in the HP community. I will be glad to assist you and let’s get right to it. Terrific diagnosis of the issue. It is amply appreciated.
- Did you update the printer’s firmware and check again?
- Did you run all mac updates?
I will be providing a roadmap with some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue. Let us try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-amp-printer-series/15304500/model/15326502/document/c0048981... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer.
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168 use a USB cable to do it.
- Run all the latest Mac OS updates and ensure that the most current OS updates are installed on the MacBook.
THen from this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-officejet-5200-all-in-one-printer-series/14095737/model/1409... (HP Printers - Print Driver Settings Guide (Mac) which gives complete settings of your printer, follow instructions from the section:
- Color and black & white settings
- Paper type, size, and input tray settings
- Print quality and improvement settings.
This should fix the issue. If it continues, then remove the printer an add the printer again by following directions from this link:
- : https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c0563596 (HP Printers - Printing with Apple AirPrint (macOS and OS X)
- Make sure to add the printer as Apple AirPrint or Secure AirPrint and nothing else. (Don’t add it as an HP printer. This is important.).
This should do the trick for you.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂

Thank you for your thorough efforts, but printer still won't print color docs from computer. Per your instructions:
1. Did hard reset
2. Tried to update firmware but none available per HP link you provided
3. Print driver settings guide: same options not available on my print window. Definitely no 'color options' setting.
4. Did not remove printer. Link to add a printer did not work. BTW - my printer is listed on my computer as 5200 Series/AirPrint.
5. Mac has all its updates.
Can you recommend a local service center or should I return printer to OfficeMax?
Thank you, Joyce
