Microsoft Windows 10 in S Mode

I have an OfficeJet 5745 that has been printing poorly (light ink/out of ink errors despite new HP cartridges) for over a month. Recently it will not print and offers the error "Photo tray is blocking. Please adjust and press OK" though the photo tray is NOT blocking & has never been used. I have spent hours trying the suggested solutions on message boards (check for jams, turn off, unplug 60+ seconds, remove photo paper, etc.) to no avail. I see others have expressed the same concern and have had patches or fixes emailed to them. Please help!
