HP OfficeJet 8015e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have the HP 8010e printer. Every time I try to scan I have issues. Since I don't scan very often I don't know if there is a common issues or not. I did figure out that you had to be careful when loading the paper to scan and not press it in too far.

But, the blue light is on, I have unplugged the printer and plugged it in again - I have gone int the HP Smart app - nothing there so assist me. The app says the printer is "ready".

Hi @SLC19,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your HP Officejet 8015e All-In-One Printer. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the scanning issue.

Check Connections and Restart Devices

  • Ensure the printer is properly connected to your computer or network.
  • Restart your computer and printer to reset any potential communication issues.

Update Printer Firmware and Software

  • Go to the HP Support website and check for any firmware updates for your printer model.
  • Make sure the HP Smart app is updated to the latest version.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
  • This tool can help diagnose and resolve scanning issues automatically.

Check Scanner Settings in HP Smart App

  • Open the HP Smart app and go to the "Scan" section.
  • Make sure the correct source (e.g., Document Feeder or Flatbed) is selected.
  • Ensure the scan settings (resolution, file type, etc.) are properly configured.

Try a Different Scanning Method

  • Instead of using the HP Smart app, try scanning using the Windows built-in Fax and Scan tool or the macOS Image Capture application.
    • Windows: Search for "Windows Fax and Scan" in the start menu, open it, and try scanning from there.
    • macOS: Open "Image Capture" from the Applications folder, select your printer, and try to scan.

Check Scanner Hardware

  • Make sure there are no obstructions or debris on the scanner glass or in the document feeder.
  • Ensure the document feeder or flatbed cover is closed properly.

Reinstall Printer Drivers

  • Uninstall the current printer drivers from your computer.
  • Reinstall the latest drivers from the HP website.

Reset the Printer

  • Perform a factory reset on your printer:
    1. Go to the printer's control panel.
    2. Navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore.
    3. Choose "Restore Factory Defaults" and confirm.

Check Network Issues

  • If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, make sure it has a stable connection.
  • Consider reconnecting the printer to your network:
    • Go to the printer's control panel.
    • Navigate to Network Setup and select Wireless Setup Wizard.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to reconnect to your Wi-Fi network.

If none of these steps resolve the issue, there might be a more specific hardware problem with the scanner.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
