Has anyone tried this other method past WIA activation?
Click Start, type: services
Hit Enter on your keyboard
Scroll down to Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
Right click it, Click Properties
Under the General tab, make sure its Startup type is set to 'Automatic',
If it has Stop, Start the service.
Click Apply and OK
Also scroll up to Shell Hardware Detection,
Right click it, Click Properties
Under the General tab, make sure its Startup type is set to 'Automatic'
If it has Stop, Start the service.
Click Apply and OK.
Any luck?

My story has a happy ending - tried to print A3+ photo's and it failed to do so. Prints almost to the end of the pic then pulls the paper back in and overprints the last 20mm. Now the great people at the store I bought it from agreed to swap it for something that works - they gave me a Epson WF-7520 - it works every time - all the time !
And it has two paper trays, scans A3 ....................................
Cheers

The 6500A plus doesn't support A3 printing. That is probably why it failed. 😉
Seriously though, ditching the HP and getting a printer from a different brand is the only way to solve our poblems. I have, however, invested in a continues ink system which works like a charm. (was fed up with bizarre ink cost) so I won't simply buy another printer,
But HP is never seeing any of my money again.

yes, i did read your previous posts before i posted my reply. surprise, surprise... shell hardware detection is in charge with auto play of devices, which for some reason stop working.. that's why i was asking if other fellow end users had any luck with this solution. if you no longer have your 6500A plus, replying to this suggestion is pointless.

Well.. if you mustKnowItAll:
Where did anyone say 'please read previous posts first!'?
Here I do: Please read previous posts first. Then you would have known that fiddling with the WIA service does jack {Content Removed} .
The shell hardware detection service provides a bit of info to the, surprise surprise.... (drumroll)...shell! You know, when you stick a dvd in your dvd player your shell will say 'Hey, play it now?'
Fiddling with this service (enabling/disabling) does jack {Content Removed} for the scanning to pc functionality.
Like I said before, the best advice as of yet is the advice that Snowwy gave: 'Get a different printer' ..
Hardly a pointless reply.

and..while i believe i made this clear enough, i obviously failed to achieve such clarity, judging from your noticeably agitated reply to a concerned fellow user.. let me reiterate.. when i said replying to 'this' suggestion is pointless, what i meant was **my suggestion**, the very same suggestion that you said will not work.."
btw, thanks for the tip about the shell hardware detection.. although, i do remember that it's used for any device that has auto-play function in it, not strictly anything that has shell. i'll just look into it.

Welcome to the club.
There's a bucketload of others haveing the same problem, but HP does not give a rat's {Content Removed} bottom.
Sure, the problem was marked as solved (which it clearly isn't), but that was merely done by an HP employee to get rid of the thread.

Hi Everyone,
In this version of the software we tried giving the customer the options to manage their activate scan to computer settings. The printer was still capable of scanning from the software. This way our software wasn't using up the customers system resources all the time. In later versions of this software we took the advice of the customer, and made the activate scan to computer active during the installation of the printer. For the version of software being used for the 6500a you will need to activate scan to computer each time you reboot your computer or the printer is turned off or looses connection with the network.
Say Thanks by clicking the Kudos Star in the post that helped you.
