Hi Brian,
Very glad to have been able to help.
HP is really silly using Flash and without any indication of such.
I would like to spread this solution around, but don't know how.
This is my very first experience of using a forum.
I will leave the file on the server for others for a few months.
If you or any one else can spread the URL around, then I would appreciate it.
Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris, I'm hoping your solution can be used by others, but being a new user, I'm not sure how you can broadcast your great advice to all those who foolishly un-installed Adobe Flashdrive. Perhaps a more experienced helper can assist. I actually passed on your solution to two other people who had the same problem as I did. Still can't understand how a HP product should depend on a third party (Adobe) to run their hardware and software!

Hi Brian, thanks for passing on the solution. I appreciate it and I hope they had the same success that you had.
I was extremely upset (and completely surprised) yesterday when I discovered what de-installing Flash did and I was very lucky to find a website that still had the Flash installable.
Everywhere else I went to told me really "useful" information about how to remove flash, but no one provided an installable any more except the one site (forgotten the name - some IT magazine publisher).
VERY frustrating! Glad to be able to help you and others that may be in the same position.
I am now faced with throwing my internet radio out in 3 weeks time as it's support website RECIVA is closing down.
Talk about programmed obsolescence!!
Happy days. Chris.

The solution does not work for a Win 10 user at all. I have an HP OfficeJet 8500 A909g whose software suddenly ceased to work at all due to this issue. And the newest driver is from the year 2015. I don't want to buy a new printer because of that software issue.
This is the error I get today at attempting to open the Solution Center. Scanning and probably printing are impossible.Error message since today.

Hi Chris,
I have the same problem but my computer won't talk to the flash install file as I am running Windows 10 and the pop up message said the flash install file was only for Windows 7.
Any ideas ..... or am I looking for a new scanner?
Thanks
Alison

I am using Windows 7 professional (which I paid for, just before they started giving out Windows 10 for free), and thankfully I don't have to toss my flatbed scanner because Chris400 pointed me to an installable version of Flash Driver, which thankfully properly installed. Now my scanner is operational again. I would have thought that the same Flash driver should also work with windows 10. Try following Chris' most helpful instructions and hopefully you don't toss your printer due to a THIRD PARTY software company making some changes. Poor decision by HP to require a third party software company to make HP hardware work properly. I'll remember Adobe and HP from now on. As well, the website says HP doesn't support anything that is out of warranty, how is that for good customer service??!!!

Oh, disaster!!
Since yesterday I also have this fi screen of death!
I have tried de-installing & re-installing flash, & re-installing the Scanner Software...
Al to no avail.
Then I started the MS Internet Explorer and went to the Flash Settings Manager Link which invokes the Flash player.
There I also get this fi screen of death in the explorer window.
A possible explanation is the following comment from Adobe: (see: https://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/end-of-life.html#)"
"Since Adobe will no longer be supporting Flash Player after December 31, 2020 and Adobe will block Flash content from running in Flash Player beginning January 12, 2021, Adobe strongly recommends all users immediately uninstall Flash Player to help protect their systems."
Today is the 12th Jan!!!
How they get into our computers is a bit of a mystery to me, but so far I have not been able to find the block (probably a registry entry) or it was in the installable from the start.
I will continue to search for a solution, but for those who can still use flash, then I suggest blocking Adobe from accessing the computer (firewall or??).
I will let you know if &/or I come up with a solution.
Perhaps someone else can also help here.
Regards Chris

OK here's the story so far after about one day's searching.
At the following Link
http://www.oldversion.com/windows/macromedia-flash-player/
you can still download older versions of Flash (for how long I don't know, Adobe is trying to kill these websites).
I removed my current version (and rebooted) and downloaded and installed the Version:
"Macromedia Flash Player 10.1 (IE) Jun 11, 2010 2.48 MB"
and rebooted.
The website says it will run on Windows ME / Windows 2000 / Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows 8
It seems to be supporting my Scanner Software OK since about 2 hours.
It doesn't seem to install itself in the same locations as later versions, which is probably good, in fact I couldn't find it at all and the file size is considerably smaller.
By the way, my scanner software has a file "FlashPla.exe" under C:\Program Files\HP\Digital Imaging\Help\player\
I haven't been game to execute it in case it screws everything up.
It may however be a default player.
I have put the above version 10.1 that I used, on the following website.
http://www.argestuttgart.homepage.t-online.de/flash/
You should be able to download it and install it, but do remove any other versions completely first.
I hope this may be permanent and not de-activated by Adobe.
If you have any problems, please let me know.
Regards
Chris
