Hi @Noodle10,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

When your HP printer suddenly becomes slow on your Mac, it can be frustrating. Here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

Basic Troubleshooting Steps:

1. Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer is properly connected to your Mac and to the same Wi-Fi network if it's a wireless connection.
  • Consider restarting both your printer and Mac to refresh the connection.

2. Update Printer Driver:

  • Make sure you have the latest printer driver installed for your HP printer model.Visit the HP website to download and install any available updates.

3. Restart Print Spooler:

  • Sometimes, restarting the print spooler can resolve slow printing issues.
  • Open System Preferences on your Mac.
  • Go to Printers & Scanners.Right-click (or Control-click) on your printer and select Reset printing system.
  • Confirm and then re-add your printer.

4. Check Print Queue:

  • Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Click on your printer and select Open Print Queue.Cancel any stuck print jobs that might be causing the slowdown.

Advanced Troubleshooting Steps:

5. Reset Printing System:

  • Resetting the printing system can often resolve various printing issues.
  • Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
  • Right-click (or Control-click) in the printer list sidebar and select Reset printing system.
  • Follow the prompts to reset the printing system and then re-add your printer.

6. Check Network and Router Settings:

  • Ensure your printer is properly connected to a stable network with good signal strength.
  • Check for any network congestion or interference that might affect printing speed.

7. Printer Firmware Update:

  • Visit the HP support website and check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer.
  • Update the firmware if necessary to improve performance and compatibility.

8. Clear Printer Preferences and Cache:

  • Sometimes, corrupted preferences or cache files can affect printing speed.Use a utility like OnyX or CleanMyMac to clear printer-related preferences and cache files.

9. Check System Resources:

  • Ensure your Mac has enough free disk space and memory (RAM) available.
  • Close any unnecessary applications or processes that might be consuming system resources.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
