HP 7612
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi! I bought my HP7612 (scanner/printer/copier, A3 size) in 2017 but I've been having trouble scanning high resolution images since last year (see image attached).

I'm using VueScan, and discussed the problem with the software's developer, who could not find any problems with the scanning software itself. A couple of friends who've bought the same scanner/printer and are also using VueScan to scan images are experiencing the same problem.

No matter how high I set the input/mode/output resolutions, the file will always appear  pixelated, with very poor quality despite its size (up to 600MB) and format (TIFF, no compression).

For comparison, I've attached a screencap of the same image scanned with a regular Xerox machine at 600dpi, TIFF format.

Please let me know how I can solve this. Thank you!Screen cap of 1200dpi file scanned with HP7612 in TIFF format, fine mode.Screen cap of 1200dpi file scanned with HP7612 in TIFF format, fine mode.Screen cap of 600dpi file scanned on a regular Xerox machine in TIFF formatScreen cap of 600dpi file scanned on a regular Xerox machine in TIFF format

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does the same happen with the HP Software?

Let's try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02919168

Let me know if this helps.

Hi Betty, and thanks for the reply!

I tried the firmware update and couldn't seem to connect the printer/scanner to my notebook, even thought both were connected to my wi-fi and I repeated the process three times.

Any idea what might be going on?

Thanks!

You could connect the USB cable and try the firmware update. Also, restart the router, Printer and the Computer in this sequence and try again.
