I have scanned many different sized orginals (usually A4 though) using the "Scan to email" from the front panel of my OJ 7612. The email would arrive with an attachment that was the same size as the original. All good.
A few weeks ago, something changed. Now whenever I scan (say) an A4 original, the image that is emailed to me is A4 wide but A3 in height. This is true for any sized original - the correct width is detected, but the height is always the full A3 size. If I scan a business card, I get a business card image sitting on the top of a 42cm high column of white... I then have to edit the image, as otherwise viewing or printing the image is a joke as it tries to fit the whole image on a page...
If I manually select the paper size, I get the correct sized image, but I have to do this every time I scan an A4 page as it resets itself to the Default "Paper Size: Automatic", and some odd sized originals aren't any of the selectable page sizes.
The glass and the white cover are clean and there are no marks etc on them.
How can "reset the automatic page size detector" so that it once more emails me an image that is the correct width *and* height?
Thnaks

Before I get ahead of myself, I just came up with a new thought. If there is something on the glass, the printer may be detecting it, thus causing the Auto detect sensor to fail. Let's clean the glass before we do anything else. Once you clean the glass, try scanning with the auto detect again and let me know if it works. In the interim, I will keep brainstorming.
Thanks.

Welcome to the HP Forums @_lainM_ I'd be happy to help you with the scan to email feature. I understand from your description that the printer is no longer detecting the proper size of the original and is instead scanning the entire flatbed. You said if you manually select the paper size, you get the correct sized image, but you have to do that every time you scan an A4 page as it resets itself to the Default "Paper Size: Automatic". Is it the default paper size automatic that is not working? When it is set to automatic the printer is no automatically detecting the size? Did I understand that right?
If this is the case, it might be best to perform a hardware reset. Please let me know if this is the case before I go ahead and send you reset instructions. Resetting the printer will restore it back to factory defaults and you will have to set it up again.
Thanks, I look forward to hearing back from you.

Hi ,
Yes, it is the default "Paper Size: Automatic" that is not working. When it is set to Automatic the printer correctly detects the width of the original - A4, business card, whatever, but it does not correctly dertect the height of the original. Whatever the actual height, it always scans right down to the end of the flatbed.
I guess I can print out all my settings before carrying out a hardware reset. Thanks.

Well there you go. You were right to check my statement "The glass and the white cover are clean and there are no marks etc on them.". And I was right to sigh and go and get a duster and give everything another careful clean.
We have a small black and white dog, and on the white cover, near the bottom of the flatbed, was a small half-black half-white hair - almost invisible to the naked eye. No prizes for guessing that once it had been removed my scans are once more coming out at the size of the original.
Problem solved, thank you!
