The automatic document feeder (ADF) on my scanner is not detecting originals when I insert them for scanning. I have cleaned and reset as per the usual instructions but still nothing. I suspect the sensor is needing replacing. Can anyone shed any light please on how to resolve this issue? Is it even possible to get a replacement part? If so, where in the UK? Thank you.

@BR007, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with an issue where the ADF (Automatic Document Feeder) isn't properly detecting documents when inserted.

Check the ADF Rollers

If the rollers in the ADF are dirty or worn out, they may not pick up the paper correctly, or the paper may not be feeding into the sensor properly. You should check if the rollers have visible signs of wear. To clean the rollers:

Turn off and unplug the printer.

Open the ADF cover and locate the rollers. They are typically rubberized and should grip the paper.

Use a lint-free cloth or a cotton swab dampened with water (or isopropyl alcohol) to gently clean the rollers.

Run HP Smart:

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)

  • Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.

Also, you may refer to these guides:

HP printers - 'Scanning is Currently Unavailable' displays in the HP Smart app (Windows, macOS) | HP...

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
