Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

Microsoft Windows 11

I can't scan.  The printer seems to require login just to scan a document.  I purchased it today.  It's mine - it's not HP's on a lease.

Is this truly the case?  That I can't use my own printer to scan without providing my private details ??   Why can't I use my own scanner?

- This isn't required by any other printer manufacturer

- It adds absolutely NOTHING of value to the scanning experience

- Any responses of "it just works better" once you log in is an outrageous lie without any supporting evidence - such as Dragon Fur response from an HP Support person is: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Scanning-Faxing-Copying/HP-smart-requiring-sign-in/td-p/7817547

-So : TRULY why do I need to provide these details before HP will ALLOW ME to use the scanning equipment that is on my desk right next to me, that I purchased and paid for?

Note: if I don't get any clear response (with evidence) that indicates that this login process actually helps my scanning experience - then I'm packing it all up and exchanging it for Brother or Canon gear.  This requirement for login is the arrogant demand of someone high up in HP.

HP removed the accepted answer that "no, it's not possible" without the long and arduous email below from the HP helpdesk which has been given by Dragon Fur. The accepted answer highlighted that it is NOT possible with out of the box software.

Hi @Starlight456,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

HP Smart requires that you sign into the application using your HP Account. Doing so provides support for the application to make use of the features for scan and Share (for example, send to email).HP Smart is not mandatory software. There are other options - each one provides a scan service that does not require that you sign in.

May I have the exact model name of the product? Refer to this document for steps to find the product details. Do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

No, what you have said is absolutely false.  For clarity: a lie.  There was no way for my parents to use the scan function without logging in.  The software required it and there was no "skip" button available.  Please don't spread incorrect information. They did not need these features you talk of - to "email it" nor share the scan in any way nor use any such "feature" that you have indicated.

They just wanted the scanned PDF stored on their local PC.  That was impossible without logging in.

Also for clarity - a hardware company such as HP should not force people to log into HP software just to attach a scan to an email.   I would also say that 99% of people that use email already know how to add an attachment, so the 'feature' you mention is not useful. You're clearly an HP employee or affiliate - and if so, then please don't hide the fact that you are affiliated or employed by HP.  In my opinion 'logging in' is largely for HP's tracking purposes, with minimal features for the customer.  Feel free to read the HP legal document that comes with the software that states the legal right to track very clearly.

Please share the product details, so I can check if there are full-featured drivers available.

Once you have the drivers installed you will be able to scan with HP Smart.

Let me know!
