I used to be able to scan a document on my Officejet Pro 8600 (wireless) using the HP Scan app on my Macbook Pro then via the pop-up window, name the document and choose a folder on my MacBook in which to store the document. I could edit contrast, etc, then name it and save it on the selected folder as a PDF file. Now when the HP pop-up menu appears, it looks totally different and where the block used to be that had a shaded section followed by pre filled in .PDF where I could name the document, the box is asking me to type in a "prefix". I have no idea what they mean by this?? At the same time, it is telling me it will store the PDF in my "Documents' folder, but when I try to choose another folder, it won't respond. Also, if I enter a document name in the box asking for a "Prefix", my attempt to name the document is ignored and never do I get the "save" button as I always did before to complete the process. Please be aware that I did not notice the inability to store my scanned documents until after I updated my OS to the latest version, Sierra V. 10.12.1. I called Apple Support and they could not resolve the problem and would not acknowledge that the new Sierra operating system could have modified the HP Scanner App in some way that used to work beaufifully. They taught me a "work around" by using Apple Scan but it's not as desirable and it's clumsy. Any feedback for me? Could the OS upgrade be part of the problem, or is it a coincidence? The printer is still under warranty until Jan 14, 2017. Thank you!

Hi @billsouth, thanks for reaching out to us on HP Forums. I came across your post and understand that when you scan from your HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer to the Mac, the HP popup menu prompts to enter a prefix. Also, it does not allow to save the scanned image to any other folder than Documents folder. I did some research and found that there aren't full featured drivers available for Mac OS 10.12 Sierra. And this is the reason why the HP popup menu looks different.
Due to the lack of full featured drivers it's not working. Therefore, I recommend you use the HP Easy Scan application on your Mac computer to Scan. Please review this link to know more about HP easy Scan: http://hp.care/2eLv8BW.
