I am unable to scan a document using the automatic document feeder. This was never a problem until I recently upgraded my operating system from Windows 7 to WIndows 10. Nothing I have found online seems to address my particular problem. My printer is connected to my Lenovo W520 ThinkPad computer by USB, This is what I have learned so far:
I can print with no problems.
I can copy a document from the flatbed with no problems.
I am able to copy a document using the feeder, so the feeder seems to be working.
I am able to scan a document from the flatbed, so the scan feature also seems to be working.
I checked for updates and the printer reports that the firmware and software are up to date.
What can I do to once again permit me to scan a document from the document feeder? Your assistance would be much appreciated.

Yes, under"Source," I had "Use Document Feeder if Loaded" and I did get the beep signalling that the document is loaded into the feeder. So, that was not the problem, but I do thank you for trying to help out.
Fortunately, I did finally find a solution, although it took some work. I reset the printer to its factory defaults, uninstalled the printer (and its drivers) from my computer, downloaded the latest HP drivers (even though the printer had reported that it was "up to date" before all this effort), and reinstalled the printer from scratch. A lot of work, but the printer now works like it did before my upgrade to Windows 10.
While I am by no means a "techie" and don't really understand why things work the way they do, I hope that my efforts may provide some ideas to others who may experience similar problems after upgrading to Windows 10.

Have you already checked the scan settings, there is a dropdown menu where you need to select the feeder.
Click the “Kudos, Thumbs Up" on the bottom to say “Thanks” for helping.

For Scan to Email, you need to set it up under "Scan to Email Wizard" once you have the FULL feature software installed.
Hope that helps!
