Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Today, when I try to scan from HP Smart on my Windows 10 Desktop (I have HP Envy 6400 all-in-one), the app says Couldn't Connect to Scanner. Restarts did not help. Scanning from HP Start iPhone app works fine so it's not the printer.

I’m sorry you’re dealing with this—it’s frustrating when the scanner works fine on your iPhone but refuses to connect on your Windows 10 desktop. 

 

Since the printer itself is functioning, the issue is likely related to Windows settings or HP Smart on your PC. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:

 

Restart Devices

  • Turn off the printer, computer, and router.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then turn them back on.

Check Network Connection

  • Ensure the printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
  • Print a Network Configuration Page by pressing the Wireless + Info buttons together.

Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings → Update & Security → Troubleshoot.
  • Select Additional Troubleshooters → Scanner → Run the troubleshooter.

Update the Firmware on Your HP Printer

  • HP regularly releases new firmware versions for printer enhancements, app updates, or issue fixes.
  • Update the firmware regularly to get the most out of your printer.

Use HP Print and Scan Doctor

  • Download and run HP Print and Scan Doctor from the link below to quickly and automatically perform several troubleshooting tasks known to resolve this issue.
