Hi @LisaA5,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with scanning on your HP LaserJet Pro MFP 3101fdw. Let's try to resolve it together.
- Are you attempting to scan directly from the printer or using scanning software on your desktop?
- Are you able to see the printer as a scanning device on your desktop (e.g., in the printer/scanner settings)?
- Are there any error messages or prompts when you try to scan?
- Have you made any changes or updates on your Mac PC?
Ensure Scanning is Enabled on the Printer:
- On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the settings and ensure that scanning is enabled and the printer is connected to the network. If it's connected via USB, confirm the USB connection.
Check for Software or Driver Issues:
- Make sure you have the latest HP software installed on your desktop for scanning. You can download the full driver package from the HP website, which includes the necessary scanning software.
Check Connection Type:
- If you are using a wireless connection, ensure the printer is properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Apple desktop. If using USB, try a different cable or port to rule out connection issues.
Restart the Printer and Desktop:
- Turn off both the printer and the computer, wait 30 seconds, and then turn them back on. This can help resolve temporary communication issues between the devices.
Reset Printer’s Network Settings:
- If scanning over Wi-Fi, try resetting the network settings on the printer and reconnecting it to your Wi-Fi network. This can help fix any network-related scanning issues.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
