I've been trying to scan in something I drew today, and the scanner isn't able to pick up on the lighter shades of pencil because the scanning ligth is so bright it washes the image out. Is there a way to lower the intensity of the light? The "brightness" slider is not the same thing, that just digitally increases or decreases the brightness of the actual scanned image, which doesn't change the lighter shades of grey from being being washed out.

Try using Copy.
Adjust setting "Lighter / Darker" slider over to the right (Darker).
If you cannot find the setting on the printer AND if the printer is on your network, you can (temporarily) adjust the default setting for Copy to "darker".
Open a "new tab" in your favorite Browser >
Enter the printer's IP address in the URL / Address bar >
tab Settings > Copy Settings > Default Settings >
Adjust as desired > Apply
If you can get a decent Copy of the image, try scanning that image.
