Hi wpagan,

Are you talking about the button on the control panel of the printer?

If so, this would not have been affected by a Windows update.

Have you tried power cycling the printer, and making sure that the power cable is connected directly to the wall outlet?

Operating the copy button (black or colour) adjacent to the LCD display causes the quantity to momentarily change from x0 to x1 but nothing else happens.

Hi princel,

Can you still print from the computer to the printer?

Can you still scan from the software on the computer?

Resetting the printer

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the product.
  2. With the product turned on , disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 15 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
  7. If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

Hi Provost,

I´ve had just exactly the same problem many others have reported here:

My printer HP Deskjet 3050 All in One J610 Series, prints and scans very well, but today I´ve discovered it doesn´t copy, nor in color or black and white.

I was making some office work, printing, I got without b/w ink, inmediately refilled it, and continued printing and scanning very well, but when I needed to make a direct copy from the standalone printer, it didn´t work. The same others have said: the screen says x0 - x1 - x0, and nothing else happens. No copy.

I tried resetting the printer just as you´ve said, and it´s just the same. No copies. Everything else fine.

From what I´ve read here, it seems to be that the printer ´don´t like refillings´ very much. I´m a little nervous that somebody has said that even replacing ink cartridges with new HP ones, have not solved the problem...

I don´t know if my printer had this trouble before, because I make a lot of printing, but very few copies. I just realized this today, after, changing the b/w  cartridge by a refilled one. Inmediately after it started to print bad in black.

I bought my printer 3 years ago, new from the store, and it has worked pretty fine until now. In my country -Venezuela-, ink cartridges are extremely expensive, and I never tried refilling before, just once -I don´t remember if I did a copy after that- and today.

So, what do you think?

HP doesn´t like refills, or could it be a hardware problem...?

Thanks for your comments...

Hello valross. I understand you are experiencing issues with your printer after utilizing refilled inks. Unfortunately, HP has no tolerance when refilled ink cartridges are utilized, since they can damage the internal ink system. Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you

As I understand the printer works using the print feature but doesn't copy, I recommend you follow the below steps to find a solution:

I would like you to perform a Hard Reset: (refer to your user manual: Click here)

1. Unplug all cables and memory cards from the printer. Unplug the power cord, directly from the back of the printer while the printer is still turned on.

2. Unplug the other end of the cord from the power source.

3. If there is a power module on the power cord, disconnect one end and reconnect it.

4. After 60 seconds, plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (not a surge protector or battery backup as they can cause the printer to lose basic functionality over time).

5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.

6. The printer should automatically power back up. If it doesn't, turn it on with the power button.

7. Try making a copy before connecting any other cables to the printer.

8. Connect any other needed cables to the printer.

Please retry the Copy and keep me posted

I have exactly the same problem, people. x0->x1->x0, when Black Copy button is pressed.

This feature has been working for many years. Only thing I can think of, is, I had recently replaced the Color ink with a new HP cartridge, not a refill, and done this many, many times, before. Sounds to me, that even a new HP cartridge can cause this problem. Geezzz!  I'm disappointed in this type of HP printer failure, and the lame help that I have gotten from HP. No excuse. I was told that I have to call their support number, which means, you know, $$$$$. Might as well just buy a new printer, rather than pay for new cartridges, to test with. I always have sworn by HP, but, I'm not sure what to think, now. I mean, why can I scan and print from my PC, ok, but, the printer's Black Copy button won't work? What's the difference? That makes absolutely no sense. So, what am I supposed to do, spend a huge amount of money on new Black & Color ink cartridges, cross my fingers, and hope this resolves the problem? And if it doesn't, then I'm screwed out of a lot of ink cartridge money. Why can't HP find out why this happening, and with their own new ink cartridges, and provide a solution? Obviously this is a problem that is affecting quite a number of people.

HP, please come up with a solution. It ain't a hardware problem, and it ain't just a refill problem. I never use refills.
