I have just purchased the Deskjet 4535 All-in-One. As I couldn't set it up in Linux Mint 17.3 using hplip 3.15.2 and hplip-gui (It would not show up in the setup device dialog), I used the Printers utility (system-config-printer) and configured it through CUPS. Even then, I was forced to use the 4510 driver, as a driver for 4530 series doesn't seem to exist.
After doing this, I can print, but I cannot use the scanner function from "Simple Scan" or any other scanner utility.
I also tried to detect the network scanner with xsane , but it would not detect it.
The only way to use the scanner is through the web interface the All-In-One fortunately provides.
Is there anything else to try? Is the 4535 supported in Linux or am I out of luck?

Well , I did go to hplip.sourceforge.net and I should have started with that in the first place. I solved the "problem" by downloading and installing the latest version of hplip, which supports the 4535 fully. The Linux Mint repo has an outdated hplip version and the 4535 needs at least version 3.5.11 to function properly. Using the latest version fixed it right away.

Hi @a_kirikos,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed your post on how you cannot scan with your HP Deskjet 4535 printer on Linux. Please note:
Linux Support for any distribution (Fedora, Ubuntu, Red Hat etc...) is only supported through http://hplip.sourceforge.net/.
If this helps, please consider clicking on 'accept as solution.' And, please click on the thumbs up icon. Both icons are below this post.
