I recently exchanged my printer under warranty. I have a "new" (refurbished) printer, which I installed with the HP Smart app. In Settings >> Printers & Scanners, I see the printer, but I do not see the scanner. See screen shot—
With my original printer, I saw both printer and scanner. What must I do to bring the scanner into Settings?

Hi,
Please lcick the Apple icon > About This Mac and ensure your macOS version is up to date with its latest updated installed, next restart your Mac.
Now let's reset the printing system as following:
*Be aware that resetting the printer system will remove any existing print queue and reset any customized driver settings.
Click the Apple menu, and then click System Preferences .
Select Printers & Scanners.
Right-click (or Ctrl + click) your product in the Printers list in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system .
Click OK to confirm the reset.
Type your user Name and Password .
Click OK . The printing system resets.
Now, open HP Smart, follow the steps to add a printer by clicking the plus sign and check for any difference.
Please let me know how it goes.
Shlomi

Thanks for the reply, SchlomiL. I went through all the steps you laid out. Checked for updates; restarted my Mac; reset the printing system. Now I'm at HP Smart, where I see three printers. The first one is a printer that I own, but I don't have it in my house (my daughter has it). It uses Instant Ink, but I plan to discontinue that one day soon.
The second printer is the 7900-series that I just sent back to HP two days ago—it's in transit. The third is the very printer that I just removed from my Mac's list of Printers & Scanners. It doesn't seem logical to tell HP Smart to install a NEW PRINTER when I already have the printer in the list in HP Smart. Can you clarify, please.

I gave up on HP Smart after it became uncooperative. It reported it was unable to find any of my printers. So I went back to Settings >> Printers & Scanners and clicked + to add a printer. Settings found the printer right away and installed it, and now I see this—
Which is exactly what I was looking for. I then deleted the HP Smart app and immediately reinstalled it from the Apple App Store. I haven't used the app since I reinstalled it, but it seems to be working properly.
