Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).
Common problems HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to scan
We would like to share some of the most frequently asked questions about HP Solution Center not working : Adobe Flash Player Error and Unable to Scan.

I have been affected by this problem since upgrading to Ventura, and I landed here looking for a solution.  I have now found the scan to computer has stopped working completely for me (HP Envy Photo 7830).  When I select it from the printer's touch screen I get a message saying "Software Required.  To scan to computer, visit 123.hp.com/setup to download HP software (full software and drivers)":

...so of course I go there and it directs me to download and install the HP Easy Start software.  Running the software it detects my scanner and then goes off to search for drivers before finally informing me that it can't find any!

Have you tried installing HP Smart app, or Apple AirPrint?

Yes, those work fine, but it's scanning from the scanner to the Mac that I want to do, and that's the part that's producing the blank pages.

Hi Mc0111 -

I did load the HP Smart app thinking it would be loaded locally on my Mac, but after loading it, noticed it was a cloud app and I did not want HP to see the data I was scanning.  As mentioned in my original post, I was scanning IRS documents.  After reading the HP Smart app agreement, HP (and the other companies it sells data to) has the right to capture personal data.  Therefore, I did not go forward with HP Smart app.  However, you do bring up a good point regarding Apple AirPrint and will try that approach.

Regarding HP Smart....why do I have to "login" every time I want to use the scanner sitting right next to me. It takes forever to load, then has to launch Safari (which I do not use) then I have to login.....why? I find it hard to believe that Easy Scan has not been updated yet.  So HP Smart it is for now.

Same problem here, and the HP Smart workaround does work, but there's nothing "smart" about that app. The User Interface is a mess, and I think that having to sign into your account to use it is problematic because it's probably sending everything to HP's cloud for whatever purpose they have in mind. In my case, where I'm scanning confidential medical documents, I see that as dangerous.

HP need to add the same few lines of code that they added to HP Smart three weeks ago into HP Easy Scan, which is a much easier app to use. Otherwise, Canon is looking good in the near future!

Agreed.  The business of signing in every time is very annoying!  They want to keep track on how much toner you're using so they can rope you in to signing up for their ink and toner subscription service. Super intrusive!

HP Recommended

Yep, the constant upsell is driving me away from what used to be a really good company. I buy toner where *I* want to buy it, *when* I want to buy it. And the constant swerves in the software to get you to buy more from their dealers is killing their product.

@HP, if you're listening, you're dreaming if you think you'll persuade any of us differently. Take all the bloatware and "spyware" out of your apps and stop watching what WE do with OUR printers in the hope that you can pick up a few extra crumbs. People buy HP printers because they work, not because they want to run to you for ink - focus on your core competency and get rid of the mandatory sign-in!!

The workaround that somebody else mentioned, whereby you use Easy Scan and when you go to Save the document you check "Long Term Preservation (PDF/A)", works just fine. No need to go near HP Smart again.

Same problem. But using HP Smart worked. I'm annoyed that I can no longer conveniently start the scan from the printer/scanner.
