I was able to start scanning directly from the printer again on my HP ENVY 5660 using the technique I described above (using HP Easy Scan just to set it up). Not sure if needed Apple AirPrint in addition but also changed to that. Now can "scan to pdf" directly from printer again.

Wow! That solved it for me, too -- and I am on a HP PageWide Pro 477dw. Changing the scan-to-cpmputer settings to Pdf-searchable from pdf-only allows me to scan to desktop directly from my printer. It creates a file that is approximately double as heavy as the pdf-only version but it does bring back the old functionality. 👍

I'm not sure how this problem can be/has been resolved when so many people are having problems. Maybe the latest Ventura update is the issue, but clearly the blank page issue needs a fix which I'm sure HP should be able organise. I've found the recommendation of saving a document in JPEG format and then changing to PDF works, which I can do on the print function. Tedious I know but without any fix being offered I had to resort to the boy scout method of trial and error. I also signed up for HP App and couldn't see what the 'benefits' of this were. Easy Scan is adequate.

Sometimes Easy Scan does not crop the page to 8.5x11 - when scanning a full page. It leaves a big chunk of white space at the bottom with a jagged edge. For what I do it, it's usually not a big deal but when I need a clean scan I always had to use HP App which always cuts the page perfect. If I scan something like my car registration, then using the scan option in MacOS settings under scanners crops a small item perfectly. I never saw this type of option with HP unless I'm just missing it. I'm not interested in scanning, saving as image, load the image, crop the image, save the image, convert to PDF. No way. MacOS scanner does this particular task perfectly. I also have an Epson photo scanner that will always crop and rotate perfectly any picture that you put on the device - which is incredibly helpful....the software has an odd user interface but once you get the hang of it, like anything else, it's tolerable.
Even if HP does fix this problem, I won't buy another HP scanner or inkjet again.
Even the scan to computer option that some people have said no longer works on Ventura was never perfect. If you wanted multiple pages. You had to be very quick in removing the previous page and laying down the next one, if you didn't want the process to end and have it send you a pdf with not all of the pages.

@raymondjiii That's easy to fix (I had the same problem). On the scan screen when you open Easy Scan, click on the drop-down box where it says "Presets", then "Edit Settings". You can set the exact page size there and it will always fill the page. See my screenshot below. The "Crop to" drop-down where I have it set to A4 will give you other size choices.

I have the same problem with a new Mac Studio with an M1 Max chip and updated to OS 13.0.1 (Ventura). Previously I had no problem scanning documents from my HP Office Jet Pro 7740 using the feeder or flat bed by using the printer's touch screen to scan and send PDF's directly to my old MacBook Pro. Now I only get blank PDF's when I try scanning to my Mac Studio. I'm unable to tell if the problem is caused by the M1 Max chip in my Mac and/or the OS 13.0.1 updated Ventura OS. My wife's MacBook Pro is still running OS 11.7.1 Big Sur and she's able to scan documents directly from the HP 7740 to her MBP using the touch-controls on the printer's control screen. When I spoke with an Apple Customer Service rep, she told me Mac's with the M1 chip are unable to uninstall the new Ventura OS and return to the Big Sur OS... or else I would have done this to be able to scan documents from my HP printer's control panel directly to my Mac Studio.

Yes, I'm running Ventura on a 2020 iMac with an Intel i5 processor and I'm getting the blank pages problem. It started when I upgraded to Ventura so I'm pretty sure it's a HP<->Apple (Ventura) software compatibility problem, not related to the hardware.
