Oh...and I am NOT NOT NOT saving as PDF searchable. I AM saving as PDF though - not jpg or whatever.
Wow, now if only Apple will fix my Apple Magic Mouse, Apple Wireless Keyboard from being recognized at bootup....and maybe not keep "forgetting" my TimeMachine disks every hour. After Ventura 13.0.1....I was ready to throw in the towel for Windows. I never imagined saying that. But, then again, I once never imagined throwing in the towel on Windows for MacOS! Time keeps moving and the pendulums keep swinging.

Exactly! I saw someone on this thread that said they had EasyScan 2.0 so I went looking. Sure enough, it's buried a little at HP.com. Oddly though, if you are running version 2.0 and then select "Check for updates..." in the menu - it goes to the apple store. But with version 1 it never found any updates.

I am trying to go through my history....so far the only link I can find is:
https://ftp.ext.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip
It's a zip file that opens to app. You have to right click it and then choose open - can't double click it. I know that it says "Easy Start" and not "Easy Scan" but that might have been it.
But it does exist - as you can see here. I'd try that link first but I'll report back if I find another. I did not keep the original download unfortunately.

I got the malicious notice also. But something got updated, because I can now scan and save as PDF. And it works. I have approximately 3 solutions to this issue and am not going to spend any further time on the matter. Thanks everyone for your help.

That is EXACTLY why I said that you cannot double click the app. I did say that you have to "right-click" and then select Open. This is how MacOS is sure that you want to open an app that is not signed by the app developer. If it's from HP it's okay to do this.
