My original post on this issue involved saving a scan to a PDF. After scanning, the PDF did not show any content. I then read that when saving your PDF, you had to enable "Long-term preservation (PDF/A).
However, when I went to open the PDF in Acrobat Pro, I could not edit the PDF...nor compress the file. This for me, was a major priority. Adobe has since offered a solution. When you now open the "protected file" you have the option to "Enable Editing."
It lets you know that your PDF no longer complies with (PDF/A). However, you can now edit, compress, etc. your file.

Thanks, Klosterperson.
My Adobe Reader subscription doesn't extend to editing, so saving to PDF/A solved the problem I was experiencing.
However, it's interesting to know that Adobe now knows these problems exist and is doing something about them.
It would have saved us all a lot of time and stress if they had anticipated them.

I found a fix to make the ADF scanner work. Go into your HP Utility, open Scan to Computer, go to edit scan tasks, click on Save as PDF and then Edit... After you click on edit, change PDF to PDF-Searchable. I was getting a white blank document scan as well, and once I made this change, the Scan To Computer started working again.
