Try using the Smart Tasks feature from your HP Smart App.

Install the HP Smart app and enable Smart Tasks

Install the HP Smart app, add your printer, and then enable Smart Tasks.

  1. Make sure your device and printer are connected to your wireless network, and then download and install the HP Smart app from 123.hp.com (Android, iOS), or HP Smart (in English) from the Windows Store (Windows 10).

  2. Open the app, and then follow the on-screen instructions to add your printer.

  3. From the HP Smart app home screen, select your printer.

    • If the Smart Tasks tile displays, continue with these steps.

    • If the Smart Tasks tile does not display, scroll down and select Personalize (Android, iOS) or Printer Settings (Windows 10), and then select Smart Tasks.

    Example of the Smart Tasks tiles displaying on the home screen (Android)

  4. Follow any on-screen prompts to sign in or create an HP account.

Hi TEJ1602,

You already shared this "solution" with me by private message, and I'll say here what I said in my response to you there: it isn't a solution. The steps you describe suggest a way to use Smart Tasks to "Save a print or scan job to a cloud storage account". But that isn't what I or anyone else here wants to do: we want to be able to send a scan directly from the printer to a computer, from the printer control panel.

Please suggest a solution that actually fits the description of what is being asked for.

Honestly, I can't believe this is so difficult.

@RobGUK

I understand. I reposted the solution as a workaround as your private messages will not be seen by other visitors on the community.

As this printer is completely designed to work on HP Smart App, Scan to Computer option isn't available on the App.

Will post a solution to this soon.

Thank you for waiting.

@TEJ1602,

I understand… except that it's not a workaround, since it doesn't actually allow me to do what I want to do.

Anyway, I look forward to your solution.

Try creating a shared folder on your Mac and set up Scan to Network Folder.

Refer to this video How to set up a Shared Folder in Mac Operating System for help.

Once the folder is set up, follow the steps below:

  • Open the EWS page of the printer. Type the IP address of the printer in the browser's address bar.
  • On the Home tab, click Scan to Network Folder.
  • Click +, and then follow the onscreen instructions.
  • After you have entered the required information about the network folder, click Save and Test to make sure the link to the network folder is working correctly. The entry is added to the Network Folder Profiles table.

Refer to the User Guide (pages 13-15) for more help.

Let me know the outcome.

@TEJ1602,

You suggested that I should "try to create a shared folder on your Mac and set up Scan to Network Folder". Unfortunately, I already tried this a couple of weeks ago, and it didn't work. Even when I finally managed to get the printer to recognise the shared folder, I always ran into errors when trying to complete the process.

I would also like to point out that, while I welcome your efforts to find a solution, this (even if it worked, which it doesn't) is just another duct-tape workaround. The fact remains that the printer fails to perform an advertised function (scan to computer). I'm very disappointed.

I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publicly post personal information (serial numbers and case details).

If you are unfamiliar with how the Forum's private message capability works, you can learn about that here.

@TEJ1602,

Thank you. I've received a PM and will see where it goes from here. I'll report back if and when a solution is found.
