I discovered that in order to enable scan to computer you must have the HP Printer Assistant installed (not Support Assistant tho' this is what directed me to the missing Printer Assistant). I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP Software but for some reason the "full featured package" did not include this crucial programme/app and I spent ages trying to make the computer recognise the printer on the network. Problem solved, now.

Hi,
Enabling Scan to Computer requires the HP Printer Assistant software, not the HP Support Assistant.
You should open your printer software (search for its model) to access the HP Printer Assistant and there click on Manage Scan to Computer and enable the feature:
