I have been contacted by HP assistance and they told me that, since the printer warranty is expired I have to pay to repair it.  Great!! So, I have to throw in the trash a one year and half old printer because it was defective from the factory.

Thanks anyway for your assistance, my HP experience ends here.

And yet another thread with HP 120 scan issues. I am now totally convinced this is a product design fault.

I have two Envy 120 printers (unfortunately), they have both the same problem. However, I do not understand why HP does not admit the problem and tries to provide a solution. The procedures they suggest do not solve the problem at all.

I am on my 4th Envy 120 (I am not kidding)... One of the replacement "refurbished" printers was even shipped faulty!!

I've got an ENVY 120 that has the same problem that others have encountered. Everything was working terrific on this well maintained device, and one moment while using it to make a dozen scans or so, the scanner and copier just stopped working. I suspect that its a scanner ligh fault, just like everyone else is complaining about. The printing is just fine, but while  in the scan or copy mode, all I get are the same color lines on the printed paper that many other have posted image of on the web. I really like this unit, and would like it fixed or replaced. I just need some help. It is also worth noting that I've encountered the same problem of others, not being able to do a firmware upgrade. The HP software sees the Envy 120 machine, but won't allow me to check the box that directs the upgrade to that machine. Go Figure?

Indeeed, yet another thread on faulty envy120...

I am experiencing exactly the same issues, and sometimes reset helps, sometimes it doesn't - it is tempremental. I do NOT believe this has anything to do with OS of computer you are tryin to scan to, preview to email or any preview shows the verical lines regardless of the destination of the scan.

Clearly, the lights in the scanner do not get any power, and there is a faulty logic somewhere.

The question for HP is - considering the volume of threads about this issue, isn't it time to recall/replace faulty products or provide an option for return/refund customers? Needless to say, I will NEVER buy another HP or recommend any of my friends/colleagues to get any either.

It's such a disappointment that expensive product like this does not work.
