I am unable to connect MacBook Pro to Officejet Pro 8710. Continuously receive error message: Failed to open a connection to the device. Have tried everything. Is there a live agent with whom I can speak for help?

Hi @TC4Deany ,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are trying to resolve your issue with connecting the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 to your MacBook Pro, here are a few steps to try:
1. Reset the Printing System on Mac:
- Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences.
- Select Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- This will remove all printers, so you will need to add the OfficeJet Pro 8710 again.
2. Reinstall HP Software:
- Uninstall any HP software/drivers on your Mac.
- Visit the official HP support page and download the latest drivers or the HP Easy Start utility to help with the setup.
3. Check for macOS Compatibility: Software and Drivers for HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series
Ensure that the macOS version is compatible with the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 drivers. Some macOS updates can lead to incompatibility with printer drivers.
4. Firewall/Security Settings:
Disable any firewall or security software temporarily to see if they might be blocking the connection.
5. Use HP Smart App: HP printer setup (HP Smart app)
- Install the HP Smart App from the Mac App Store and try adding the printer using the app.
6. Use IP Printing:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners and click + to add a printer.
- Click on IP at the top and enter the printer’s IP address (you can find it on the printer's control panel under network settings).
Refer to this document: HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-in-One Printer series User manual
HP printer setup (Mac built-in driver)
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
