Just an FYI, folks.

Although chrome and safari don't work, I did find that Microsoft edge in Windows 10 works with the strange certificate.

Are you saying you got the scan to email to actually work, or just able to get to the printer webpage?

I am not a tech person.  However, after 4+ hours research and trial and error, on the evening of 8/29/18 I found a solution that worked.

I did have to change my outgoing email account in the HP Scan to Email setup to a gmail account.  Additionally, I also had to change the settings within my gmail account itself.  In my Google/Gmail account, I had to turn off the two-part verification setting and then also change the setting to allow less secure apps to access the account.  Having the two-part verification on is what causes the HP setup to return the email address/password error.  It is also necessary to turn off the two-part verificaiton in order to see the setting that enables you to allow less secure apps.

Personally, I'd suggest creating a totally separate gmail account jjust for this setup so that you don't have to reduce the security setting on a primary account you may be routinely using.

Within the Scan to Email set up, I used the following settings for the gmail account:

smtp server:  smtp.gmail.com

smtp port:  465

check the box for:  Alway use secure conntection (SSL/TLS)

check the box for:   SMTP server requires authentication for outgoing e-mail messages

SMTP User ID, use full email address:  XXXXX@gmail.com

SMTP password:  Google/Gmail password

This STILL does NOT work as of December 2018!!! I should NOT have to create a gmail account NOR should i have to buy a new printer.  Is there a VIABLE fix for the AOL user???? I absoluteley can re-establish the connection under a gmail account however, my dad solely uses AOL and that one i CANNOT fix no matter what I do. two step authentic CHECK, update smtp info CHECK, even created a password specifically for the app CHECK and NOTHING works,  HELP for REAL we need REAL HELP! How do we fix this on other email platforms WITHOUT the necessity of creating a gmail account,

I gave up expecting HP to fix this issue and I didn't want to create another email account.  HP obviously doesn't care.  An alternative solution that I now use is to scan it to my desktop and then insert it in an email.  Not elegant but it works.  Really liked the scan-to-email feature but................. it is what it is.  Last purchase of an HP printer for me.

Here is how to scan to email or scan and save.  I have AOL

Put your document in the feeder
Select scan
Select scan to
Choose computer
Choose either  save as PDF, save as JPEG, email as PDF, or email as JPEG
Confirm start scan
Start scan
Email will pop up on your computer for you to enter address to send to and body of email

You are correct.   However, scan to email feature which allows you to select from the address list still doesn't work and it did until about a year ago..

I'm getting the same problem.  Help!

I'm not an HP person.  I'm just a user that had the same problem as you.  Back on Aug 29, 2018, I posted information on a workaround that actually works.  Having to set up a dummy Gmail account isn't ideal, but it does work.  And in the long run, what does it really matter what the "from" email address is on a document you are scanning and emailing to yourself.

HP Recommended

It may not matter to you but it does to me.  I don't need or want another email account.  A work around is not a fix.
