With a new computer with Windows 11 my HP 4215 all-in-on printer works but the scanner is not recognized. The HP software just keeps cycling back to suggesting reinstalling the "Smart" software and offers no help. Any suggestions would be welcomed.

If this is your printer:
HP Officejet 4215 All-in-One Printer series
then
The printer is not supported in Windows 11.
Printer is not, in fact, supported in Windows 10, either.
Interesting that it prints.
HP Smart is not an option on a printer of this vintage - printer is too old.
What?
According to what I can find, the model was released some time in 2006.
The entirety of the information about Scan in the user manual is 1/2 a page.

The default destination is whichever one you selected the last time you used this menu.
3 Select the destination by pressing " or !, or by pressing the Scan button repeatedly.

Thanks for your help. Yes the scanner worked just fine in Windows 10 as well as the printer. I did try VueScan which doesn't seem to work as it doesn't find the printer/ scanner at all. It does say it needs the HP driver to work which seems a bit like a catch 22 problem as I can't find a driver. The printer continues to work just find and it seems a shame to have to buy a new device.
But again I really appreciate the response and info..

You are welcome.
Too bad about VueScan - yes, seems useless in this context.
If there is any good news at all, printers have come a ways since the 4215 - if you can afford the budget, there are some nice options available.
