I Have an HP7740 wide format all in one and it keeps dropping the ability to scan through the HP Smart App.

I can scan through the touch screen on the Printer but not through the HP Smart App.

Any suggestions?

Thanks for explaining that. If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 scans fine from the touchscreen but intermittently fails through the HP Smart app, it’s likely a network handshake issue, app cache conflict, or a port communication fault between the app and the scanner service. 

 

Here’s a structured approach to restore stable scanning via HP Smart:

 

Update HP Smart App:

  • Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart App installed on your computer or mobile device. Visit the Microsoft Store or app store relevant to your device to check for updates.

 

Check Connection:

  • Verify that your printer is properly connected to the same network as your computer or device. This connection is required for the HP Smart App to communicate with your printer.

 

Restart Devices:

  • Restart your printer, computer, and router. This can sometimes resolve connection disruptions between the app and printer.

 

Re-add Printer in HP Smart App:

  • Remove and re-add your printer within the HP Smart App.
    • Open the HP Smart App and remove the printer from the device list.
    • Restart the app and add the printer again by following the setup instructions.

 

Check Printer Settings:

  • Ensure your printer does not have any settings that might block it from communicating with the HP Smart App, such as sleep settings or connection restrictions.

 

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website to download the latest printer drivers and firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740.

 

Check Firewall and Antivirus Settings:

  • Ensure that your firewall or antivirus settings are not blocking the communication between the HP Smart App and the printer.

 

Use Windows Built-in Fax and Scan Tool:

  • As a workaround, you can use the Windows Fax and Scan tool if the HP Smart App is temporarily unable to connect.
