This problem was on my end. The document was being stopped by a spam filter. I was able to download it. The manual refers the user to HP Print and Scan Dr. This site checks for connection issues etc. This is not the problem I am having.

This site refers to poor quality 'Copies', not scans. If I print directly from a saved document that has been downloaded from the net, or saved from Word or Excel, it prints fine. the only time I have an issue is when I scan a document and then save it.
So the website links that I was pointed to in the earlier reply have been no help. What should I try next?
