I have a new HP MFP-M28a printer.
I installed the drivers and I can print from my mac.
The copy button on the printer works and the printer prints a copy of what is on the scanner bed.
When I run HP Easy Scan software version 1.9.2 (122) the scanner dropdown shows No Scaner Selected.
My printer does not show when I use the dropdown and click on Browse Scanners.
I have restarted the mac and the printer. The scanner software still does not see the printer.
Help!

A warm welcome to HP Support Community!
It could be an issue with the print and scan driver installed on your Mac. Removing the existing driver and then adding a compatible driver may resolve the issue. Let's try these steps:
Please ensure that the printer is up to date with its firmware and Mac is up to date with it's software. If you are unsure you may use the links below to update the printer firmware and Mac software:
1.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
2.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
3.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
4.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
5.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer. in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
6.) Try to print and scan.
Let me know how it goes!

Hi Senan,
Thanks for the great reply. I did as you suggested but I still have the same issue. The HP Easy Scan software does not see my scanner. I can still print to the printer, and the copy button on the printer will scan a copy and print it. The printer shows up in the Printers & Scanners Settings page and shows as Idle, Default.
best regards,
Bill

You are welcome, Bill! Could you check if you can access the scanner using Image Capture.
1.) On your Mac, open Finder
2.) Click Applications and open Image Capture
3.) Select your printer name under Devices.
Refer to this document for instructions on how to scan using Image Capture.
We can also try adding the scanner in HP Easy scan after a simple power cycle. Here is how to do it:
1.) Turn off your Mac, Printer.
2.) Unplug the USB cable.
3.) Turn on Printer and Mac also connect the USB cable.
4.) Open HP Easy Scan.
6.) Click "Scanner:" and select Browse Scanners...
7.) Select the listed HP Laserjet.
8.) Try to Scan.
Keep me posted!

Hi there,
Why send a private message?
Anyway, your solution did not work.(Update firmware with link to ftp.usa.hp.com/M28_Series_FW_Update-20190124.dmg) Was that the latest firmware or an earlier version?
I have the same result. HP Easy Scan and Apple Image Scan does not see the printer, but I can print to the printer.
Thanks,
Bill

- Unplug the USB from the printer and restart the printer.
- Restart your Mac
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners
- Right-click the printers list (or CTRL + Left Click) and select Reset Printing System.
- Plug the USB and check the added print queue.
