Note: From May 1, 2024, the HP Scan and Capture app will no longer be available (retired) in the Microsoft Store and HP will not release any further app updates. Alternatively, you can download HP Smart from the Microsoft Store. For more information on how to set up your printer using the HP Smart app, go to HP printer setup (HP Smart app).

I purchased the HP Envy 5055 and am regretting it. There was no choice but to purchase wireless and it of course is a malfunctioning piece of junk. You have to go through 50 maneuvers to do anything. I want to scan something and it worked before but now it wants me to download an app. I do not want to download an app. I do not want to be on your monthly ink subscription, I do not want to keep being forced into HP scams. 

How can I get the scanner to work? Will you take this piece of junk back? My old printer that required a cord, never malfunctioned.

IT also took 9 tries to download the software. Great product. If you have a lot of spare time to waste, buy this piece of trash. IF not, go find a regular printer so you can actually print and scan

From which device are you trying to scan? Is it a Mobile device or a computer?

Which Operating system is installed?

Hello

 

from an HP computer . I go to scan and select new scan like I did many times before with the old printer . It won’t scan , tells me to get an app or something else . The printer is functioning so I installed it ok although it took multiple tries .

To know how to check the version of the Operating system installed, refer to this document.

 

Printing from a PC does not require a Full-featured driver, but scanning does. If you are using a Win 7 or Win 8,/8.1 operating system, reinstalling HP Full-featured drivers may resolve this issue.

 

Clean uninstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features 
  2.  Select your HP Printer 
  3.  Select Uninstall 
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers 
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’ 
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo. 
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”) 
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab 
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom 
  10.  Select Ok 
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows 
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver. (Make sure to choose your operating system before downloading)

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

After the software installs, search Windows for HP, and then select your printer to open HP Printer Assistant.

In the Scan tab, click Scan a Document or Photo to open HP Scan.

 

If you are using a or Win 10, you may Install HP Smart app through which you will be able to scan.

I agree this is junk. I need to scan for the first time. Tells me to download software from 123.hp.com. Have done that numerous times. How do I get the scanner to work?
